Back in 2013, a pop-up shop was opened at Hamilton House on Stokes Croft to showcase the amazing talent of the artists who rent studios in the building.
The In-House Pop-Up Shop ran for a week to coincide with the Hamilton House Open Day and was such as success that a decision was made to open the shop for the whole of December 2013.
Now, the In-House Pop-Up Shop has opened again and this time it has an Eco/Natural World theme that links with Big Green Week (the UK’s festival of eco ideas, art and entertainment, which runs from 14th–22nd June). The In-House Summer Pop-Up Shop is based in the gallery space at Hamilton House (80 Stokes Croft, Bristol) from 2nd-30th June 2014. It is open from 9am to 9pm during the week and from 9am to 5pm at the weekend.
The shop has a huge range of items for sale including plants, toys, kichenalia, accessories, books, food, clothes, jewellery, prints and cards and original artworks.
When you visit the shop, the first thing that you will notice is the lovely green grass floor (and fluffy clouds) and the fantastic display set-up, which has been created from recycled materials by Gem Burgoyne (an artist based at Hamilton House who has developed the In-House initiative and manages the shop) with help from Simon Mills of Cornish Beard Design and the whole Coexist team.
A walk around the shop reveals the work of 40 artists, most of whom are based at Hamilton House. Contributing artists include Katcha Bilek (handbags and more created from recycled materials such as tyres), Tatty Gem’s (great recycled clothes and accessories), Pirata Distro (bunting made from recycled umbrellas and more), and K-cycle (upcycled jewellery and accessories). There are also a number of guest artists who have been chosen because their work links to the eco and natural world theme of the shop.
The lovely flier for the shop has been designed by Alexia Tucker, an illustrator who is part of the Drawn in Bristol group who are based at Hamilton House.
Hamilton House will be having its annual Open Day on 14th June, so if you have not had chance to visit the shop before, pop along on 14th June and see behind the scenes at Hamilton House. Find out more at: http://www.hamiltonhouse.org/open-day/
